New Blog Logo, Posters (Updated)

Brief blog note. Big thanks to Jeffrey of Pixel Rally for the new blog title, especially the sweet Autobot and Decepticon symbols with the Moon in them to match the new logo for Transformers: Dark of the Moon. What do you think?

Update: Jeffrey was kind enough to make public his designs for the Decepticon and Autobot logos along with two posters of his own creation. These are not official designs for the movie, but inspired by the current title design. The four images can be found here. If you do snag em for your websites or whatever, just make sure to give Jeffery and Pixel Rally the credit.

Transformers 3 Teaser Poster? Nope (Updated)

TFormers.com has posted a possible teaser poster for Transformers: The Dark of the Moon that "Bru No" spotted at a hotel conference room. It is hard to tell if it is the real deal but includes a good look at the head of Shockwave as floats behind the image of the moon emblazed with the Decepticon logo and the tagline "Be Afraid of the Dark."

Update: Bumping up this post from 10/27/10 as to probably the surprise of no-one, the poster is a fake. Michael Bay did another one of his random drive-by on his official forums, posting, "Total fake poster. The story logline is also a misdirect." Thanks to NHLfan for the heads-up.

Transformers 3 Still Filming (Updated)

A series of tweets, along with picture, from Tyrese Gibson indicates that Transformers 3 may still be filming in LA.
Back on the set of Transformers 3.!! Good to be back in LA I wrestled and had a pillow fight with my little girl last night!! Fun times !

Locke High School, Crenshaw & Compton High I will see you all in 1 hour on thd set of Tranformers 3! Ur 3.5+ GPA's earned you this today!!
Update: The Mail Online has posted images from the Los Angeles set of Shia LaBeouf filming a scene in front of a blue screen. I am guessing it is for close-up work that will be combined with the footage filmed at the Chicago parking deck with Shia's stunt double. Patrick Dempsey was also there but his casual attire indicates to me that he was just visiting. (via AllSpark)

Official Movie Site with Logo, International Release Dates

The official website for the Transformers movies has updated its look to reflect the upcoming movie Transformers: Dark of the Moon which was officially revealed via Entertainment Tonight. The only difference between the leaked news and now is the dropping of a "The", amazingly creating a better title. As the pic shows, the new logo uses the same font as previous movies but with a sharper looking black and silver color scheme (ironically following the Hasbro tradition of repaints schemes being better then original). I have already modified the blog's title to reflect the new logo via the complicated process of cut and paste. Now just need to see if they also updated the Autobot and Decepticon symbols to reflect this new scheme.

The site has also updated it's International Release page for when TF3 will premiere around the world. Oddly, there is no simultaneous worldwide release; instead the range is June 30th to July 11th. Thanks to NHLfan for the heads-up.

Transformers Prime Trailer and Clip.

The Hub finally decided it was time to reveal more information about Transformers: Prime by letting everyone know about the "mini-series" event that gets off with an hour long premiere on November 26th. Still no news on the exact time slot of the show. USA Today posted an article with a clip while IGN has the first trailer for the new cartoon. USA Today mentions that there will be toys with the new series but no release date for them. Based on what little is show in the videos below, the CGI seems more Beast Wars Season 1 then Beast Wars Season 3 in detail.
Executive producers Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci, writers of the first two Transformers live-action films, hope to give the franchise a new feel via advanced visual technology and original stories, while retaining its connection to the long-running mythology. "It's a deeper exploration of everything from what happened on Cybertron to their arrival on Earth. Things we've only hinted at in the movies we can really spend time getting into on the show," Kurtzman says.

Transformers: Dark of the Moon ET Report

Entertainment Tonight has posted their article of video of the behind the scenes report from the Chicago set of Transformers 3. The video includes set footage, explosions and the sales pitch of the movie from Michael Bay, Shia LaBeouf, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Tyrese Gibson, and Josh Duhamel. Pretty much no spoilers are revealed but the title does drop a "the" with official title being "Transformers: Dark of the Moon" which oddly enough does make a difference. If want to get a little meta, thanks to Colin Hinkle for the picture of behind the scenes of ET filming behind the scenes of TF:DOTM with Samantha Harris in the yellow dress. Also thanks to Teddy83 for the link.
"I think what we were lacking in the second movie was heart," says Shia about the last installment of the blockbuster franchise, 'Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen.' "But, I think with the addition of Rosie and new characters … you still have the magic of the first film, but you have depth in the ending of the third."

"Sam's coming out of heartbreak," explains Shia about the film's emotional center. "He's looking for a rock. He's looking for stability. He's looking for a person who doesn't love him because of his involvement in the wars, or because of his involvement with the robots. … And, so he's looking to define himself and find a person who understands the definition and loves him for him, and he finds it in Rosie."

"The story, I think, is really rich," says Michael. "This is kind of a good old fashioned, kinda espionage 'Transformers' movie." He adds, "I just told Mayor Daley that I'm sorry about messing up his city."

Transformers: Prime Official Premiere Schedule

The Hub network has issued a press release finally verifying the official launch date of Transformers: Prime as Friday, November 26th as previousily rumored. On the 26th, The Hub will air the first two parts of Darkness Rising with parts 3-5 airing on December 2nd through 5th. The press release breaks down the confusing schedule but there are multiple repeats with a mini-marathon on December 4th from 1:30pm to 4:00pm. Assuming I am reading the release's tea leaves correctly, after the "mini-series" event, Transformres: Prime's regular schedule will be Fridays at 6:30pm. Have to say, whoever is handling the schedule at The Hub is borderline incompetent. It really shouldn't be this hard to figure out what the schedule is of a program, when it will regularly air and when to watch a "mini-series" event. Thanks to Rodsuper for the link.

Transformers 3 Chicago Nostalgia (Updated)

Tomorrow night Entertainment Tonight will air a report from the Transformers: The Dark of the Moon Chicago set. This seems like a good time to flashback to some of the sites from around the Windy City through the lens of Jeffrey Marshall of Pixel Rally who brought us much of the images we saw from the filming back in July and August. Below is the second ET commercial for their report and also select images from his image gallery. It is worth clicking to as he provides little bits of info on what the image is about and who is in it. The highlights include some Bayhem, close-up of the 3D viewing setup, giant blue robot head, and more. Thanks to Jeffrey for the pictures.

Update: Added third ET TF3 commercial below.

Transformers Linkfest

More links to reviews and upcoming toys.

New Masterpiece Rodimus Prime Gallery
New images of the upcoming Masterpiece toy. Rodimus has the ability to transform between Rodimus, Hot Rod and their alt modes. Rumors still live that Hasbro will also release the toy but without the trailer. Too early to say but this one has the potential to be the best Masterpiece toy yet. Sadly the cost remains a wallet draining $200 for the import. Hit the link for scan of the Figure King issue that shows other upcoming Takara Transformers.

War for Cybertron Cliffjumper
Once you have a Bumblebee design, it is almost inevitable that Cliffjumper will follow. The upcoming addition to the Transformers: Generations line uses the same mold as 'Bee but in his trademark red along with a new head mold. Full gallery at the link.

Transformers 3, ILM Specials (Update 2)

Two Transformers related programs will be hitting the airwaves soon. The first is a rumored report about Transformers: The Dark of the Moon for Canada's Entertainment Tonight for Thursday October 28th at 7PM EST. I assume that means the US may have the same report around the same time but not really sure. No details on what the report could be about so could be anything from a set report to maybe a preview of a teaser trailer. Assuming rumor is true, will find out then.

The second related program comes from Encore Movie Channel which will air a documentary about Industrial Light & Magic on November 14th, 2010. ILM is responsible for most of the special effects used in the Transformers trilogy. Based on the press release, I think the behind the scenes stuff will be from Transformers 1 so mostly good for seeing how the robots were first created considering how that initial work has been used for the rest of the trilogy. It might be worth checking out, if you have the channel, if only to see how ILM continually pioneers much of the visual effects we enjoy in movies and television. Thanks to Winton for the link.

Update: ET Online has made it official with their own teaser trailer here. The footage is from the filming in Chicago so while I doubt it will provide any new information, it will probably show off some cool footage since they were invited onto the sets and close to the action. Thanks to Katie for the link.

Update 2: Found the YouTube version of the teaser clip.

Transformers: Prime Premiere Dated?

TFW2005 is reporting that Transformers: Prime will premiere on Friday, November 26th at 8:00pm EST along with the G.I. Joe: Renegades at 8:30pm. The information comes from TV Tango's listing for the Hub. The information is sorta backup up by The Hub website which says the show will premiere in November but provides no date or time. Since the network continues to bizarrely treat their schedule as state secrets, no telling when official confirmation of Prime's premiere will be released.

di Bonaventura: More Comedy Than Before

In an interview with IGN while promoting Red, Transformers 3 producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura spoke about 3D, comedy and action. At one point the he said the movie would have more comedy which seems to contradicts Michael Bay but he said he was "getting rid of ...the dorky comedy" so I guess that part is (hopefully) getting replaced with more natural comedy. Thanks to rumah for the link.
"[3D] captures scenes in a way they haven't been captured before and here's a different sensibility to the movie as a result" he explained. "Michael is so awesome at shooting, the question originally was how the cameras would work because they're cumbersome. Look how long it took Jim Cameron to make one movie. All those things are quite daunting, but Michael figured out how to use the cameras in a day.

"We had a day early in pre-production set aside just so he could test the cameras and see what they were like. If you look at Avatar, the camera isn't sweeping around in the way Michael uses the camera, so we had to make sure it could do what Michael does. I think people are going to be pretty wowed by the result."

"What you can expect is more comedy than we've ever had before" di Bonaventura revealed. "You can expect bigger action sequences than we've ever had before and you can expect a different character through-line for our lead because he's a little bit older and Rosie's a little bit older - there's a maturity there that didn't exist before.

Transformers 3 in Real and Post-Converted 3D (Updated)

Cinematical is reporting that Transformers 3 will be in Real 3D (filmed with 3D cameras) and post-converted 3D (CGI does the 3D adaptation). The information comes from a highly placed source, in this case Vince Pace who is the primary expert on 3D technology and started the company that develops most of the 3D camera rigs being used today, including for Transformers 3.
Vince Pace, director of photography on the Los Angeles unit of 'Avatar', told Cinematical that Michael Bay's upcoming 'Transformers 3', now titled 'Transformers: Dark of the Moon', is being both shot and post-converted in 3D. "We're doing Transformers with Michael Bay, and that's a big challenge because he's not the kind of director that's going to give you a break," Pace said to reporters Tuesday. "But he met it halfway and he said, look, it complements my product, and I want to incorporate this into my shooting style.

Pace spoke to reporters at the Los Angeles press day for the new 'Avatar' 3-Disc Special Edition Blu-ray. He confirmed that both processes were being used on the 'Transformers' sequel, and observed that filmmakers can make good use of either of them as long as the circumstances are right. "They're doing both," he revealed. "[But] once we win that – once they know you're putting a better product on the screen, then you're working as a team. I think the dimensionalization quotient, if you will, can work if you have enough time, if you have the right talent behind it, and some money to back it, you're in a good place to work in it. Because it's part art, part time, and it's part technology."
I can't decide if this is good news or bad news. To my knowledge this will be the first film to merge the two processes. On one hand any robotic Transformers and other CGI effects for the movie will essentially be post-converted anyway since those objects are created in 3D anyway as part of the work required in creating them. It is why all computer animated movies go ahead and get released in 3D since the data is already there anyway. The main issue is post-conversion doesn't work real well on real-world objects where the computer has to extrapolate the 3D look from a 2D image. I guess we will all find out when the film is released on July 1st, 2011.

Update: Nelson, admin of MichaelBay.com, posted "Obviously some—very little—footage will be done in 3D post as the team only had a limited numbers of cameras as there sometimes were 6 to 10 different cameras rolling on certain sequences." It sounds like post-production conversion will be used in the few circumstances where a 3D camera couldn't be used (like say any shots filmed by the skydivers in Chicago). Thanks to rumah for the link.

Road Home, DC Video and TF Trailer Call-back

Even though current, but limited knowledge, indicates that Transformers: The Dark of the Moon is no longer filming in the states, the image taken by Denise T. shows Ironhide and Ratchet as they were transported on Monday around noon through Phoenix, Arizona in Eastbound lane. More than likely the destination is wherever the TFs are stored when no longer being used for filming or promotional use but maybe more is being done in LA.

Speaking of production, below is another video from Washington, DC filming. This one is shows more of the filming at Lincoln Memorial and what else Shia and Josh were up to after they ran across the lawn and what the flashing lights might have been for. The last video is the teaser trailer for the upcoming movie Skyline. Mostly posting it because found it amusing the use of the Transformers 1 trailer music queues and font designs complete with glowing light in the background. Thanks to Mauricio and and Jakenbocker for the links.

Transformers 3 Plot Summary

From the same source that revealed the official title of TF3 as Transformers: The Dark of Moon now provides us with the official plot summary for the movie. The information comes from Amazon, via TFW2005, with an early entry for Transformers 3 Push-Pops, which are books with pop-up pages based on the movie. Well "plot" might be too strong a word as it doesn't reveal a thing that Michael Bay didn't talk about more than four months ago in a USA Today article. With minor tweaks this could be used to describe many episodes of the Generation 1 cartoon series. Thanks to Kris for the heads-up.
The Autobots, led by Optimus Prime, are back in action, taking on the evil Decepticons, who are determined to avenge their defeat in 2009’s Transformers Revenge of the Fallen. In this new movie, the Autobots and Decepticons become involved in a perilous space race between the U.S. and Russia, and once again human Sam Witwicky has to come to the aid of his robot friends. There's new characters too, including a new villain in the form of Shockwave, a longtime "Transformers" character who rules Cybertron while the Autobots and Decepticons battle it out on Earth.

TF3 DC: Even More Videos, Images

To my knowledge, production in Washington, DC has come to an end. It is also possible the United States side of filming has also completed. This doesn't mean that more images and videos from DC are still not popping up online. Thanks to Topherlyon who posted a nice gallery of images from filming, including confirming it was Julie White, Kevin Dunn, Shia LaBeouf, and Rosie Huntington-Whitely filming at Constitution Hall on last Sunday. The full set can be found on Flickr.

He and his brother also posted two videos (below) that they edited together of the first two days of filming in the area. The 1st video is filming at Constitution Hall, the second is a look at some of the pre-prep before the Bayhem along Pennsylvania Avenue. Overall they report seeing 4 fire fights and 1 explosion with multiple takes.

Below is also a link to a 20 minute video on Facebook (no embedding available). It shows some of the Lincoln Memorial filming including a close-up of Michael Bay, Josh Duhamel, Shia and others doing their various tasks including filming a scene of them running together towards flashing lights (probably representing a distant fire fight) along with Shia finding various ways to kill time between takes. Part of it is various amusing ways to get himself going to make it seem he has been running for a while. Speaking of, for additional amusement Shia also got busted throwing coffee on paparazzi while in DC. Thanks Adam for Facebook link and rumah for coffee video link.

Transformers Linkfest

Time for another linkfest. More galleries with emphasis on upcoming Transformers: Generations toys along with a few reviews.

Transformers United Kup and Perceptor
Hit link for few images of the G1 character re-imagined with new alt modes. "United" is Takara's name for the Generations line from Hasbro. A leak from Hasbro Malaysia indicates the figures will get a stateside release in February along with Wheeljack, Rumble, Frenzy, Wreck-Gar and few others (links to their galleries below).

Transformers On Sale
Not sure for how long but Wal-Mart has dropped the price on Deluxe and Power Core Combiner 5-packs. The Deluxe sizes, including Generations are selling for $9 instead of retail of $12. The Power Core figures are $15 instead of $20, a pretty good price point if on the fence about trying these toys out (or buying ahead for Christmas). In addition, Target is selling the Power Core 2-packs for $7. Personally I used the sale to snag Generations Soundwave, Bumblebee, and Drift. All are pretty solid figures that match the Generations line well and warm my fuzzy nostalgic heart.

More Images, Video from TF3 in DC

The pictures and video continue to hit various websites and YouTube as Transformers 3 continues production around Washington, DC. Yesterday a big crowd showed up to the Lincoln Memorial as Shia LaBeouf, Josh Duhamel and NEST members filmed.

The set of images below come thanks to Shane W. who took them while visiting the city on Tuesday. The pics where taken at the 9th Street base camp. Also below are links to additional galleries with the 1st gallery from Bryan showing the fans ringing the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool while filming occurred with a break taken as Shia and Josh met fans including one fan that was able to get his ROTF 1st movie DVD signed. Bryan also reports that Tyrese was not on set but his stunt double. From comments, turns out the INOVA thingie on his uniform is a powerful flashlight.

As for videos, the first one comes from MyFox DC as they interview fans as they wait for the big Pennsylvania Avenue explosions from Monday. This is also the report that started the rumor that the Bumblebee accident would be incorporated into the scene, something that MB.com's Nelson says is untrue. Speaking of those explosions, Shane also posted five of his videos. The first three show a close look at the action from PA Ave. between 3rd and 4th Streets, the Mad Max car driving by on H Street, and the arrival of the replacement Bumblebee(s) to continue filming. Links to others show the unloading of 'Bee and Shia driving the Datsun along Pennsylvania Ave.

The fifth video is a nearly eleven minute look at some of the filming that occurred near the reflecting pool. At about that time, Bryan recorded 15 short videos from around that time that seems to include scenes with Shia, Josh and NEST. I chose a sample one, be sure to hit link below for the rest. The 7th video is from Sunday as at Constitution Hall. Not entirely sure but think Kevin Dunn (blue shirt) and Julie White (pink dress) were there. To finish things up, the last video returns us to explosion. This time from Constitution Avenue as it goes off and two cars smash into each other. Thanks to Shane, Bryan, Sideswipe, digifruitella, Katie, and Mauricio for the links, vides and images.

TF3 DC: Bayhem Arrives in the Capitol, Autobots Exiled

Despite the Bumblebee accident, the show must go on as it did last night in around the National Mall in Washington, DC. Michael Bay was able to get permission to bring his patented Bayhem to the scene with explosions and lots of gunfire as the videos below filmed near the Capital Building along Pennsylvania Avenue show. In addition he briefly spoke to a fan about the accident, joking around saying "there are always more" and "Washington cops wrecked my Bumblebee." Thanks to Eric Heise, Jeffrey from Pixel Rally and Katie for the video links.

A thread from Revenge of the Fallen, carried over with set images of an "Autobots Go Home" graphitti has hit a new level with a reveal from The Washington Post that indicates things are going very badly for the Autobots in this movie. Thanks to Richard P. for the link. Update: Politico provides a little more information including the name of the character as Dana Bash.
"While filming "[Transformers] 3" in front of the Capitol in D.C., director Michael Bay shoots a scene in which a "CNN reporter" broadcasts news that Congress has acted quickly to pass legislation that exile Autobots from American soil."
As the photos above and below show, Bumblebee is alive and well both in a trailer and on the DC streets thanks to Allison and Michael D. along with a few additional images. From the TF Parking Lot/Home Base, Allison reports that she scoped out the "Mad Max" truck and could not find any insignia to verify if it’s a Transformer or not. She did note a little dog on the front that to me suggests more terrestrial origins for the vehicle (or that its Wreck-Gar who started as neither Autobot or Decepticon in the G1 movie). She also spotted two additional Bumblebees, not including the damaged one. The rest of Michael's gallery from the streets of DC can be found here.

Transformers 3 Cleared in Indiana Accident (Updated)

TMZ is reporting that Transformers 3 has been cleared in the accident that occurred in Hammond, Indiana. The accident led to a significant head injury to extra Gabriela Cedillo. Sadly they also reveal she is paralyzed on left side of her body. No details beyond that nor an update on the lawsuit which will probably take a while to get sorted out.
A rep for the Indiana Occupation Safety and Health Administration tells TMZ ... an investigation into the September 1 accident -- in which a tow cable snapped and sliced through Gabriella Cedillo's skull -- concluded that producers operated by the book in coordinating the fateful stunt.

Instead, IOSHA tells TMZ the accident occurred "due to the failure of a weld connecting a car to a cable. The weld was made by a certified welder and all necessary safety precautions were in place."

The IOSHA rep added, "No citations or fines will be issued. This was an unfortunate and unforeseeable accident."
Update: TMZ has posted a follow-up to the article with a comment from the family on the state's conclusions which came down to "sh@% happens."
The family claims, "The mere fact that the welding was performed by a 'certified welder' ... does not in any way suggest that the weld was performed properly." The family continues, "In fact the evidence is clear that it was done in a slip-shod fashion."

The statement concludes, "It is completely irresponsible for even a local government bureaucrat to rush to such sloppy conclusions."
This statement clearly comes from the family lawyers for the lawsuit as a means of PR control (in case goes to a jury). An OSHA investigation just verifies that rules and regulations were followed. The level of craftmanship is not really OSHA's jurisdiction, something like that would have to be handled as part of the lawsuit.

TF3 Heading to Johnson Space Center for 1960s Look

It turns out that Washington, DC will not be the last stop in Stateside filming for Transformers 3. An email was sent out to Johnson Space Center employees looking for 130 extras for filming to occur on Saturday, October 16th. In addition, the announcement verifies that there is a definite late-1960s Apollo space mission angle to the plot as extra's will be costumed to fit the era's style.
This is an official email from Building 30 Facility Management

WANTED: Male extras for Paramount’s “Transformers 3” movie

Paramount is seeking to cast approximately 130 non-speaking parts for the role of Apollo Mission Control Flight Controllers and NASA officials.

Filming is on Saturday, Oct. 16th.

Casting is for Johnson Space Center team members only within the Mission Operations Directorate (MOD) – must have current CAA access into Building 30 Mission Control.

Those cast will be compensated by Paramount at $64 per 8 hours, with lunch provided.

For this scene depicting an Apollo moon landing, Paramount is looking for males over 25 years of age who are willing to be outfitted in a period costume and have haircuts from the late 1960s.
Just a guess on my part but sounds like TF3 will be making use of The Apollo Mission Control Center National Landmark (pic above) located there. Thanks to Sideswipe and Richard P. for the info.

TF3 DC: More Set Pics, Mad Max Truck, New Accident Video

The news yesterday was mostly about the car accident between Bumblebee and a Washington DC cop, but that was not all that occurred yesterday. Transformers 3 was filming in several locations around the National Mall. Part of the reason Michael Bay was not spotted at the accident is because he was in front of the American Red Cross Headquarters, filming a retro scene that may tie into a rumored 1960s flashback that is related to space race. Meanwhile Shia LaBeouf, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Kevin Dunn and Julia White drove around in the Datsun PL510 (from Chicago and Indiana) and other vehicles near the Lincoln Memorial. My understanding is today is when filming shifts into a night shoot starting around 6:30pm but not sure at what locations.

One other piece of information is the Mad Max truck from Chicago was spotted, not sure though if part of filming or just attached to the traveling filming caravan. The vehicle is rumored to be Megatron, something that "Astrotrain" reported to me as true:
Megatron is for a fact the Mad Max semi in TF3. I can send you more behind the scenes pictures from a storage facility where all the vehicles were kept while in Chicago. My father in law who works for a special effects company in Chicago was one of a group whose job it was as he said Michael Bay states "make this truck look more demented." Also not sure if it is known or not but Patrick Dempsey’s Character is a super Billionaire computer expert, who helps the transformers buy building additional ones to help. Those NASCAR transformers are not partially transformed those are ones he created, along with he "power glove" we have seen Sam wearing.

Transformers 3 DC Parking Lot Gallery

Thanks to Allison, here are images of the Washington, DC parking lot that is essentially base camp for Transformers 3 production complete with make-up, costume trailers and so forth. It is located near the Old Convention Center Parking Lot on 9th Street, between New York Street and H Street. The crew, once again showing their friendliness to fans, allowed picture to be taken as long as didn't touch anything and treated the property with respect. Sadly the Wreckers remained in their trailers so no pics of them. I believe the pictures were taken before the Bumblebee car accident which is why get a look at all of them including a peak of 'Bee next to the Ferrari. Still Optimus Prime, Ratchet, Ironhide, the Decepticon Suburbans and more are on site.

Bumblebee Involved in Real Car Accident (Updated)

While filming in Washington, DC today for Transformers: The Dark of the Moon, the real Bumblebee car was involved in a car crash with a police vehicle responding to an emergency car. According to TMZ.com, D.C. police said the officer was part of the Explosives Ordinances Division, indicating he was responding to a bomb threat. He was also driven to a nearby hospital, no word on injuries. ABC WJLA reports that the roads were closed, including Maryland Avenue were the accident happened, but police will use the shortest route available to get to an emergency.

Below are several different videos found by Mauricio of the same accident. No details on how this effects production. While often there is multiple copies of a car, one for stunts, one for a camera rig, and so forth, that doesn't necessarily mean they have more than one of the "hero" car which is usually the vehicle that is used for close-ups and whatever scene that is required were the vehicle just has to look good. They might be able to rig another copy or even get the car repaired in record time by swapping parts with other vehicles. The last video is a shot of the aftermath found by TFormers as 'Bee gets prepped for towing. Thanks to Richard, @sdlrob, and the many other site readers for the info.

Update: According to Colin Hinkle, who shot a lot of the cool images and videos from Chicago, he spoke with crew then and learned that Transformers 3 production does have two hero cars, one with tinted windows to help hide the driver and one without.

Update 2:: J1000, who brought us all the images from Detroit, provided this picture to back up Colin's info. Two Bumblebees, the tinting being the only difference. In addition, Todd C. who was onsite at the time of the accident reports:
I had taken my kids to the American Indian Museum and walked out to see them shooting. I was right there when the accident happed. The one thing they are not explaining is that this was the second take. The first take the corvette was behind Bumblebee and lost control and spun around nearly colliding with a trailer. So the next time they put it behind Ironsides so it would not have to make a sharp turn. In between the 1st and second shoots, and ambulance also went through scene. It didn't seem like he knew what was going on. He got half way through then kind of slowed down by Optimus Prime looked at it confused then kept going. believe me it was a big mess!

Dark of the Moon Trademark Filed, Florida Info

A few new pieces that follow-up on previous posts. The first is yet more proof that Transformers: The Dark of the Moon is the official title for the new movie. TFW2005 found the US federal trademark filing from Hasbro for the name, "Wednesday, September 29, 2010, a U.S. federal trademark registration number 85140636 was filed for DARK OF THE MOON by Hasbro, Inc. with the description Toys, Games and Playthings; gymnastic and sporting articles not included in other classes; decorations for Christmas trees." Thanks to Udana and Katie for the info.

Also a site reader commented a little bit about the filming at Kennedy Space Center, specifically about some of the stars seen on set.
Worked as an escort on T3 filming - Shia Lebeouf, John Turturro and Josh Duhamel were all on the sets I covered. They shot scenes at the Pad, OPF, VAB, SLF and SSPF. We had LOTS of KSC extras that are actual engineers and lots of fun (long, LONG days). Lots of juicy stuff, but cannot disclose it per the movie folks request. It was supposed to be a closed set, but that’s pretty hard to accomplish. We got to see all of their vehicles, and they got to see Discovery in all her glory with the RSS off the vehicle. Amazing sight!! The cast and crew were respectful and courteous, and in awe of the hardware (the payload AMS was a fav), the buildings, and the wonderful people at KSC. They were most appreciative of the exceptional logistics that we needed to coordinate in order to accommodate the entire cast and crew. We loved having them and look forward to the movie!!
Last, below is a video from NASA that shows more of the photo op that NASA employees and their family had with Bumblebee and Optimus Prime once filming had wrapped at Kennedy. Thanks to Sabastian for the link.

TF3 Florida: Helicoptor Action and Photo Ops

On Friday Transformers 3 filming continued at Kennedy Space Center (KSC) in Florida specifically at the Space Station Processing Facility (SSPF). It also seems to quite possibly be the last day of filming at Kennedy as some of the Transformers vehicles participated in a photo op for KSC employees and their family. Not sure if that means they are still not doing more around Florida or if everything is getting packed up for Washington, DC starting Monday.

The two pictures are from the photo op and found at KSC's website but so far I have not been able to get the gallery to load. Also below are two videos, one I think filmed on Thursday as shows four helicopters heading to the launchpad in a kind of formation. It doesn't look like they are sporting camera bubbles indicating they are part of the action rather than filming it. The second video is a brief interview with Kennedy's News Chief Allard Beutel as he spoke a little bit about TF3 filming at the Center. Thanks to Sideswipe for the info and video and Richard for the pictures.

DoD Extras Casting Call for DC Shoot

The Department of Defense's Facebook page (trying to wrap my head around that), has posted a extras casting call for Transformers 3 when it films on the National Mall from Tuesday to Thursday. The call is to cast only 33 military extras, limited to DoD volunteers so civilians and non-employees are out of the running. On a related note, ARL Now reports that Transformers 3 will be filming at or around Air Force Memorial from 5:00pm to 10:00pm. The casting call from Seibertron.com:
Transformers 3 would like to have military extras for a big scene that's scheduled to be filmed in Washington, DC on the National Mall next week. The dates of the filming are from Tuesday, October 12, through Thursday, October 14. This is a night scene, so filming would be from 1830 to approximately 0630 the following morning. It's an important scene involving the U.S. military "NEST" team featured in the other Transformers pictures. It's always much better when actual military personnel portray military extras, rather than civilians.

IDW Plans an Infestation

Today at the New York Comic-Con, IDW Publishing announced a crossover event for their licensed products that starts in January. Called "Infestation", it will be essentially a multi-universe zombie invasion (like Marvel Zombies) that will impact Transformers, Star Trek, G.I. Joe, and Ghostbusters. The zombies are based on IDW's Zombies vs. Robots comic book where the bad guys have the capability to zombify robots so the threat could cause problems for Transformers.

The crossover event is being written by Dan Abnett and Andy Lanning (Legion, Realm of Kings) with various artists for the books. The invasions begin with Infestation #1, continue in Transformers: Infestation #1-2, Star Trek: Infestation #1-2, G.I. Joe: Infestation #1-2, and Ghostbusters: Infestation #1-2. Infestation #2 will close out the crossover. Comic Book Resources spoke with event editors Tom Waltz and Andy Schmidt about the crossover. Click here for more details and the first issue covers.
"Without giving too much away, I can say that we start in the IDW universe with a zombie outbreak of epic proportions. The threat is contained (or is it?), but not before it infests other realities - the realities of our licensed books," Waltz told CBR. "The individual series will show just how our intrepid heroes - folks like Optimus Prime, Dr. Peter Venkman, Mr. Spock, Baroness, and so many others - face down this new and obviously shocking threat, and their desperate efforts to stop it before it can completely consume - both literally and figuratively - their realities."

TF3 at Kennedy Space Center Update

Transformers 3 production continues to film at the Kennedy Space Center. According to Sideswipe, they have spent the last two days at the launch pad filming scenes while NASA continues to prep Discovery for launch, most recently loading the Payload Canister. The camera feeds of the area have started to get cut when TF3 production starts. He also reports that helicopters have been filming around the pad, indicating that whatever the scenes are there is more to them than just a walk and talk. Below are links to various galleries, I recommend at least checking out the Orlando Sentinel where I got the awesome Prime in front of the VAB pic. A few of the images prove that the Twins and Ironhide are on site. However, being on site and being part of the various scenes are two different things. Thanks to Sideswipe for the links.

The Orlando Sentinel | TFW2005 | NASA Space Flight forums

Update: Brief update from Sideswip on today's filming:
...from someone who works at KSC "They were filming on the pad surface all day, so they were probably supporting that. We had to time our breaks around theirs so we could get in and out of the gate. Did get some cool pics but y'all are going to have to wait until later to see them, have strict orders not to post them for getting the opportunity to take them. Sorry. Did get some inside info, but, again, can't say anything. (I know, the suspense will suck!) But I can say, I think most of you will be pleasantly surprised! ;)" Also heard they were filming in the firing room yesterday. So launch sequence? I think so!

Transformers 3 Official Title Leaked (Updated)

It seems that someone TFW2005 might have discovered the official title of Transformers 3 thanks to a leak via Amazon.

The title - Transformers: The Dark of the Moon

The discovery started with three children books posted on Amazon with the same suffix title. The books are called Transformers: The Dark of the Moon: Autobots Betrayed!, Transformers: The Dark of the Moon: Secret of the Autobots, and Transformers: The Dark of the Moon: Invasion of the Decepticons. Keep in mind a children's series of books were released with the second movie. The theory is further supported by the discovery that the domain transformersthedarkofthemoonmovie.com was registered about three weeks ago but the owner remains unknown.

While the title does seem a bit pulpish, it really isn't much different in style as "Revenge of the Fallen". It does fit rumors that the movie's plot ties directly into the 1960's missions to the moon as does the current filming at the Kennedy Space Center. No idea how long it will take for this to be confirmed or denied. If this title is accurate, maybe someone can talk Michael Bay and company into providing the "real" title of the first Transformers movie (like Star Wars: A New Hope). Thanks to Udana for the heads-up.

Update: Collider is reporting they were able to get official confirmation that this is the title of the movie, "We have now confirmed the title with sources close to the production." IGN believes the confirmation came from Lorenzo di Bonaventura who often provides content for the site. Thanks to Brian for the link.

TF3 Florida: Autobots at the VAB (Updated)

Transformers 3 production continues in at the Kennedy Space Center. A source provided a report including identifying the person in the wheelchair and a video they found of most of the Transformer car as they drove away from NASA's Vehicle Assembly Building (VAB). The TF vehicles on site include Optimus Prime with trailer, Bumblebee, Ratchet, the Ferrari, and Mercedes, the 3 Wreckers, and Sideswipe.
I was pretty close to the filming in the VAB yesterday as were about 150 extras. The guy in the wheelchair was John Turturro. I didn't snap any photos while they were filming because they are pretty strict about photos and I didn't want to get in trouble.

Many KSC employees and all the extras were able to witness some street filming last evening at KSC about an hour before sunset. A long convoy that included OP, bumblebee, a silver topless stingray (sideswipe), a red Ferrari, and three or four NASCAR based autobots, and I think Ratchet all sped down the street in front of the VAB and into the front gate of the VAB for numerous shots that were shot from different directions using the Camera chase car.
As for images, Florida Today reported about yesterday's filming along with a gallery of images here of the Wreckers. The article describes a little bit of the casting and costume process for extras cast for the shoot. It was noted that filming at Cape Canaveral Air Force Station, "where the Atlas and Delta unmanned rocket programs are housed -- to the filming schedule apparently was a last-minute decision by Bay." Thanks to Sideswipe, Ray, and Richard for the links.

Update: Thanks again to Sideswipe, below are three additional videos that show off the Autobots as they drive in front of the VAB.

Lawsuit Filed Against Transformers 3 (Updated)

As expected, a lawsuit was filed against Transformers 3 production by the family of Gabriela Cedillo who was injured on September 1st while an extra on the Hammond, Indiana set. Tragically, it seems the Mrs. Cedillo, did suffer permanent brain damage as a result of the accident and remains at Loyola Medical Center. The lawsuit alleges negligence in the welding of towing components, design of the bracket and allowing extras too close to a car stunt that was being filmed. Below is the description of the accident from Chicago Breaking News and the Cedillo family's attorney
Cedillo was among 80 extras and was driving her own car in the westbound lanes of a vacated portion of Cline Avenue for the stunt, according to the lawsuit. While she and the others were driving, stunt vehicles were being towed by flatbed trucks in the opposite lanes at about 50 mph, the suit states. The stunt called for two of the towed vehicles to rise in the air and then flip "by use of a pulling cable with the idea being to cause violent rolls of the cars involved," her lawyers said. On the day of the accident, a cable and bracket attached to the bottom of a stunt car closest to Cedilla and the other extras snapped, the lawyers said. The vehicle became "airborne into the oncoming lanes, striking Ms. Cedillo's hood, windshield and eventually her head." the lawyers said.

TF3 at Kennedy Update

Transformers 3 continues to film at the Kennedy Space Center (KSC). Thanks to site readers we have a little bit of information and webcam images of some of what was done today. Filming started this morning at the Vehicle Assembly Building (VAB) with the Autobot vehicles spotted outside the building.

Sideswipe noted that observers thought it seemed like the plan is to have the Autobots communicate with Discovery. The Rotating Service Structure stage for Discovery was delayed to Wednesday night so if plan to film Discovery, that will have to occur on Thursday. Some noting that if the shuttle is a Transformer it should have a female voice since shuttles are traditionally referred to by NASA as "she". Around 3pm EST, he reports that filming moved to the Orbiter Processing Facility (OPF) where the shuttles are prepped for the craft's next scheduled launch with the Endeavour and Atlantis currently being staged.

As for the images provided by Sideswipe (he also posted some on the NASA forums), they seem to show a man in a wheelchair having a meeting with a general or possible NEST members in the VAB. It is unclear on the specifics. I don't think it is a flashback sequence for a rumored 1960's story angle mostly because of the SUVs in the background. Thanks to Sideswipe for the info and pics and Richard for the forum link.

Transformers 3's DC Schedule, Street Closings

The District Office of Motion Picture and Television Development (MPTD) has issued the official shooting dates for Transformers 3 production along with streets that will be closed and related parking restrictions. The shoot is schedule to run from October 11th to October 15th with closings centered on the National Mall area. Considering that the last time streets were closed in Chicago it led to lots of action sequences, it does seem to indicate that Michael Bay might be able to film some action sequences. Thanks to Allison for the details and chart below.

"The Dreads" In Indiana

Collecticon.org has posted two videos from the video shoot in Hammond, Indiana from last month. The first video has Agent Simmons' Mayback, Autobots and the Decepticon SUVs (called "The Dreads" by crew) as they filmed on the I90 Skyway. The second video gives you a good look at the digi-truck (not Prime) that was "later destroyed in a stunt where the front of the truck was heavily damaged." The truck's color is so it can be replaced by post-production visual effects.

Transformers 3 Filming Discovery on Wednesday

The NASA Space Flight website is reporting that Transformers 3 production is scheduled to film Discovery on the Launchpad this Wednesday. Filming began at the Kennedy Space Center this weekend as the shuttle runs through the various steps necessary to be ready for the November 1st launch. The highly technical article gets into the specifics of prepping the craft but here is the Transformers 3 specific portion.
...flashes and bangs of a different nature can be expected at the pad over the coming days, as movie crews film scenes for the Hollywood blockbuster Transformers 3, with Saturday processing information noting work to support filming should proceed as planned over this weekend.

Scenes are expected to be shot at Pad 39A on Wednesday – understood to be timed with Discovery being on show with the RSS retracted, meaning the Shuttle may gain herself some credits in the movie.

Hundreds of extras have received security clearance to be in the grounds of KSC during the filming, while Cape Canaveral sources noted Atlas and Delta resources will also be involved in some scenes. Director Michael Bay had previously filmed at KSC during the making of Armageddon – which involved scenes with Atlantis and Endeavour.
"Sideswipe" posted some more details about Wednesday filming.
"...word has it they will be filming on the pad Whether it be 39A or B on Wed ...and delta and Atlas rockets are also suppose to be involved. They've also said that the RSS (which encloses the shuttle on the pad) will be at it's park position to load the payload canister for STS-133. There has also been discussion of rolling the crawler up and down the ramp, for those who don't know, the crawler itself detaches from the actual pad and can be rolled away or back by itself.
If you are interested in seeing more of the Discovery Launch prep there are video feeds and media galleries to look through. The reason for filming the craft, even without a launch, may have something to do with news that in some form or fashion part of the plot for Transformers 3 involves the 1960s space program. Of course shuttles were not used then so maybe it was changed to involve today's program. Thanks to Richard P. for the links.

John Malkovich On Transformers 3 Role

Way back in March it was revealed that John Malkovich signed on to the cast of Transformers 3 and yet the only detail learned was the character was the boss of Sam. Finally, in a interview with Hit Fix to promote Secretariat, the actor finally added a few small details including the name of the character as Bruce Brassos. Based on the description he is essentially playing the equivalent of the Rainn Wilson character from Transformers 2. If watch the video, the TF3 portion starts at 2:15.
A newcomer to the series, Malkovich plays the boss of our hero Sam (the always present Shia LaBeouf) and said he was subject to only one day of action. And he bluntly and slyly describes his "loudmouth" character as, well, a "jerk." He also volunteers he had a "very, very enjoyable time" shooting with John Turturro, Rosie Perez and LaBeouf. Malkovich ends with, "For me, it was a blast."

Duhamel About Rosie Casting

Shia LaBeouf and Josh Duhamel recently spoke with MTV while promoting their respective movies of Wall Street 2 and Life As We Know It. In both cases they had nothing but glowing comments about Rosie Huntington-Whitely who replaced Megan Fox on Transformers 3 and some of the Chicago footage they have seen. Thanks to Katie for the links.
"I think there's positives and negatives to her not being [in the movie]," said LaBeouf, who was at the Toronto Film Festival to promote "Wall Street 2." "It's awesome that we get the discovery again. I think when everybody's vetted and everybody's been through these wars, then that discovery of the first film is nonexistent. It's kind of beautiful in that we get a new set of eyes, a fresh set of eyes for the audience to vibe with. So you get the discovery again, which is something that wouldn't happen if Megan came back."

LaBeouf said she's "doing great," though there's little he could do to prepare her for the experience of working with famously fiery director Michael Bay.

"You can only do so much," he laughed. "Fight or flight. A tap on the back and a 'Good luck!'"

"I've seen about 10 minutes of it — just the stuff we shot in Chicago — and it's pretty awesome," [Josh] revealed to MTV News.

Transformers 3 Toyline Sizes

The movie maybe just a touch under a year from release but that isn't stopping Hasbro from laying the groundwork. According to TFW2005, Toys R US Canada has already received some information about the prices and classes that will be released for the movie.

Transformers MV3 Activators ass.---$9.99
Transformers MV3 Cybertech DLX-----$16.99
Transformers MV3 Cybertech Lead----$59.99
Transformers MV3 Cybertech voy-----$29.99
Transformers MV3 Cyberverse basic--$5.99
Transformers MV3 Cyberverse plus---$9.99
Transformers MV3 GO BOTS ass.------$12.99
Transformers MV3 Revving robots----$24.99

Basic is another name for Legends class and Plus replaces Scout. The main new class additions are Go-Bots and Revving Robots but no clue what they mean. Not really sure what "Cyberverse" or Cybertech means but probably has something to do with whatever gimmick is designed into the toy. Thanks to Udana for the link.
